Nowadays, students print slides to take their notes in class but sometimes problems arise: the professor only uploaded it the night before, you accidentally took the slide from the wrong course or the wrong chapter,… . A lot of paper goes to waste and to tackle this problem, we want to develop the eWriter:

The eWriter is a low-battery and eyesight-friendly tablet which gives you the same experience as writing on paper. The eWriter will assist students from KULeuven in their learning process by getting rid of unnecessary amounts of paper, easier access to course material for note taking and facilitate note sharing and cooperation.

The eWriter will use a new technology called CLEARink. This technology can provide a solution for efficient note taking during lectures, seminars and meetings. The eWriter will have an 9,7” screen which makes an elegant thin design to easily take handwritten notes on e.g. powerpoint slides, pdfs and textbooks while saving your data immediately back to the cloud (such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneNote, Toledo and Dropbox). This way, documents can’t get lost and are accessible from every device.

The new CLEARink display technology reflects the light from the environment which is better for your eyes and battery life. This makes it possible to use your eWriter during a full lecture day. The screen of the eWriter can also be used outdoors and is far more robust so your hand can rest on the screen without damaging it or swiping something away by accident.

The eWriter is a concept by and for students, which means that it will be affordable and will offer all the necessary features a student can wish for:

• Possibility to take notes offline and online and to save your notes online on any cloud service
• Easy access to Toledo and Google Scholar
